Special Exhibition: How Historic Durham Survived the 20th Century
Our exhibition celebrates the work of The City of Durham Trust which was founded as the 'Durham Preservation Society' in 1942. It shows how Durham faced extensive demolition and redevelopment in the 20th Century, and the campaigns led by the Preservation Society to protect the historic buildings and green spaces of the city.
On display is Thomas Sharp’s plaster model of Durham City made in 1945 which shows the scale of the proposed redevelopment.
