Durham's Black History: Introduction |
Durham Museum is engaging with the often overlooked role of Africans in the making of Durham’s history. The region’s wealth was built on the coal trade, which had many links to the slavery business. Leading abolitionists had links to Durham.
We are collecting information on Africans with connections to the city, such as “Jimmy Durham”, to promote awareness of African people’s historical presence in Durham.
